RESUMO

Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) is prevalent in China, and causes notable economic damage to the equine industry. However, there is no information regarding the molecular characteristics and pathogenicity of the Chinese strains. Therefore, an EHV-1 strain, named YM2019, was isolated from the lung tissue of an aborted horse fetus in Xinjiang, China, and its genome and pathogenicity were analyzed. The full genome of the isolate was 150,267 base pairs in length, with 56.7% G + C content. Genetic and phylogenetic analysis showed that strain YM2019 (GenBank: MT063054) belonged to the ORF30 N752 genotype but displayed a high level of similarity with strain Ab4 (ORF30 D752, GenBank: AY665713) isolated in Britain. Fourteen unique amino acid mutations were found when comparing strain YM2019 with the reference strains Ab4 and V592 (ORF30 N752, GenBank: AY464052). Syrian hamsters infected with strain YM2019 exhibited severe respiratory and neurological clinical signs and died. Infection with strain YM2019 in Yili horses caused rhinopneumonitis, viremia, and neurological clinical signs such as hind limb lameness, prostration, and reduced movement. Here, we describe the features of an EHV-1 strain discovered in China, together with the complete genome sequence, and reveal that a nonneurovirulent strain (ORF30 N752) can also cause neurological signs in horses. The data will be useful in providing some reference for further research into the relationship between viral genotypes and pathogenicity.

BACKGROUND: Intraspinal extradural ventral cysts in the lumbar spine can cause back pain and neurological deficits of the lower extremities. For the resection of this type of space-occupying lesion, the transdural approach has not been reported in the literature. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 66-year-old man presented, suffering from progressive radiation pain of his bilateral lower extremities. Imaging examination revealed a cystic lesion in ventral side of lumbar spinal canal. We conducted the excision of the cyst with the transdural approach. The symptoms of the patient disappeared immediately after the operation and recurrence of the symptoms has not been observed in the 3-month follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: This operation approach is safe and effective. Compared with the previous surgical approach reported in the literature, by this approach surgeons could achieve less injury, shorter operation time, and the same surgical outcomes in the short term. Therefore, we would like to present this approach to provide an alternative to deal with similar lesions.

Currently, medical institutes generally use EMR to record patient's condition, including diagnostic information, procedures performed, and treatment results. EMR has been recognized as a valuable resource for large-scale analysis. However, EMR has the characteristics of diversity, incompleteness, redundancy, and privacy, which make it difficult to carry out data mining and analysis directly. Therefore, it is necessary to preprocess the source data in order to improve data quality and improve the data mining results. Different types of data require different processing technologies. Most structured data commonly needs classic preprocessing technologies, including data cleansing, data integration, data transformation, and data reduction. For semistructured or unstructured data, such as medical text, containing more health information, it requires more complex and challenging processing methods. The task of information extraction for medical texts mainly includes NER (named-entity recognition) and RE (relation extraction). This paper focuses on the process of EMR processing and emphatically analyzes the key techniques. In addition, we make an in-depth study on the applications developed based on text mining together with the open challenges and research issues for future work.

We report on the characteristics of near-band-edge (NBE) emission and deep-level band from ZnO/Al2O3 and ZnO/ZnO core-shell nanorod arrays (NRAs). Vertically aligned ZnO NRAs were synthesized by an aqueous chemical method, and the Al2O3 and ZnO shell layers were prepared by the highly conformal atomic layer deposition technique. Photoluminescence measurements revealed that the deep-level band was suppressed and the NBE emission was significantly enhanced after the deposition of Al2O3 and ZnO shells, which are attributed to the decrease in oxygen interstitials at the surface and the reduction in surface band bending of ZnO core, respectively. The shift of deep-level emissions from the ZnO/ZnO core-shell NRAs was observed for the first time. Owing to the presence of the ZnO shell layer, the yellow band associated with the oxygen interstitials inside the ZnO core would be prevailed over by the green luminescence, which originates from the recombination of the electrons in the conduction band with the holes trapped by the oxygen vacancies in the ZnO shell.PACS 68.65.Ac; 71.35.-y; 78.45.+h; 78.55.-m; 78.55.Et; 78.67.Hc; 81.16.Be; 85.60.Jb.
